Will Oprah Winfrey Become the American Ambassador to South Africa? Saturday January 17, 2009 According to Mail & Guardian, a South African newspaper, Oprah may be taking over as the new ambassador to South Africa. The fact that the information came from an unidentified embassy official, and that Oprah’s reps have yet to confirm or deny the news makes me wonder if this is just another in a long list of rumors since President-Elect Obama won the election. With Oprah’s busy schedule – The Oprah Winfrey Show is contracted to run on network syndication until at least the 2010-2011 season – I doubt that this position would be something that she could consider.
