Will Obama cross the ‘reefer rubicon’?
Obama’s choice of Seattle Police Chief Gil Kerlikowske as drug czar offers hope of a ramp-down in our futile, grossly expensive, hypocritical, counterproductive War on Drugs. Kerlikowske has said nothing substantive about backing legalization of drugs, as has his predecessor, former Seattle Police Chief Norm Stamper. But he has presided over law enforcement in a city that has virtually decriminalized marijuana. Latin America, meanwhile, leads in seeking an end to the War.
