Will Neve Campbell be returning for Scream 4?
Neve Campbell, who played the lead role of Sidney Prescott in the Scream franchise, will not be returning to reprise the role in Scream 4. The screenwriter of the series, Kevin Williamson, confirmed the news via Twiiter where he simply said “Trying to figure out a Sid-less scenario. She won’t do it. This sucks.” Well, it doesn’t get much more cut and dried than that. Williamson is currently developing the script for the first part of a new trilogy. While this news is probably disappointing for the fans of the franchise, it currently appears that both Courteney Cox and David Arquette are still rumored to be returning for the film. http://www.iconvsicon.com/2009/06/19/neve-campbell-will-not-be-returning-for-scream-4/ Sources: http://www.iconvsicon.

The “Scream” trilogy is one of my favorites in horror history and yet I met the news that another trio of films will join the franchise with much disdain. Typically, this genre is the most willing to cannibalize its product — looking at you “Saw” movies — so I hold them to a much lower standard. But through a combination of perfect timing and sneaky snark, I always had a special place in my heart for the “Scream” movies. It was then revealed that original stars Courteney Cox-Arquette, David Arquette, writer Kevin Williamson and director Wes Craven were all toying with the idea of reprising their roles. This made the prospect of more Mr. Ghosty murders a little bit more palatable. But I was still vehemently in favor of leaving well enough alone (if we’re being honest, number three is pretty poor on its best days anyway).
