Will Nery Castillo play for Mexico in 2010 world cup?
I believe FIFA’s policy on this is that you have to choose the country that you want to play for by your 21st birthday. Castillo’s situation is that he is the son of Uruguayan football (soccer) player, but was born in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, therefore obtaining dual citizenship. He played with Olympiakos in Greece for a number of years, which enabled him to get Greek citizenship and an EU passport, making him more appealing to European clubs because he doesn’t take a valuable foreign player slot on the team. He’ll definitely play for Mexico in 2010, as that’s the country he committed to. The reason he hasn’t played for Mexico in the last few weeks is because of a personal issue; I believe his mother was ill. Expect him to rejoin Mexico during the round robin stage of the CONCACAF qualifiers for the WC.
