Will my syrian hamster bite?

0

“Anything with a mouth can bite.” Syrian hamsters are the most prone to bitting and you should NEVER feed a hamster through the bars as this makes them think that anything comming through the bars is edible, including fingers. Most bites are from mitaken identity (thinking fingers are food) or from self defence (thinking they’re being attacked) rather than agression. Always make sure your hands are free of food smells or sweat and never go to pick up a sleeping hamster! Always make sure the animal is fully awake and knows you’re there before trying tp pet it or pick it up. Granted the bite does hurt, but does very little damage. Best way to pick up a hamster is by putting your fingers around it’s chest just under the front legs, lifting gently, and placing your other hand imediatly underneath to support the back legs, then let it rest fully in your hands, releasing the chest once you’re sure it won’t fall. The more you handle it, the less likely you’ll get bit.
