SONY announced on the 23 February that the Eurpoean version of the PlayStation 3 will not be as backward compatable as the US / Japan versions. “The backwards compatibility is not going to be as good as the U.S. and Japan models,” a Sony spokesman said. The reason for this is that on the European model, software will handle some of the functionality of compatability that on the other models was handled by dedicated chips.
