Will Montreal have a minor league team 2 replace the Expos?
Quebec City does not have an affiliated minor league baseball team – the only affiliated minor league team still in Canada are the Vancouver Canadians, a Short Season Class A team in the Northwest League. The Quebec City Capitales are in the non-affiliated Canadian-American League and have no ties to any MLB team. Beyond that, I can’t see Montreal getting a minor league team without a new stadium. Le Stade Olympique’s time has long past and the failure to replace it was just one of the contributing factors to the departure of the Expos. Beyond that though, even if there were a new ballpark, a new team would have to come via expansion or relocation. Expansion isn’t a possibility because that would only occur if the MLB expanded as well. Relocation is a possibility but less likely. The closest leagues, geographically would be the AAA International League, the AA Eastern League, and the Short Season A New York-Penn League.
