Will Mojave make any mics with variable patterns and/or pads?
Yes, in the future we will produce models with variable patterns and pads. For our first microphone, the MA-200 was designed to be as “no-frills” as possible, giving engineers access to an excellent sounding tube condenser microphone at an affordable price. As far as future Mojave mics, David has a notebook full of designs from his 20+ years of microphone development. Many of these designs come from David’s days of building custom microphones for top LA engineers and they have been field-tested and proven on many demanding recording sessions. As far as the use of pads, the MA-200 prods <3% distortion @125dB SPLuce, so it can handle pretty much whatever you put it in front of. Keep in mind that when well-designed tube mics are driven into distortion, they generate second order harmonics, which are not ugly and can even be desirable in some applications.
