Will Mojave make any mics with variable patterns and/or pads?
Yes, in the future we will produce models with variable patterns and pads. For our first microphone, the MA-200 was designed to be as “no-frills” as possible, giving engineers access to an excellent sounding tube condenser microphone at an affordable price. As far as future Mojave mics, David has a notebook full of designs from his 20+ years of microphone development. Many of these designs come from David’s days of building custom microphones for top LA engineers and they have been field-tested and proven on many demanding recording sessions. As far as the use of pads, the MA-200 prods <3% distortion @125dB SPLuce, so it can handle pretty much whatever you put it in front of. Keep in mind that when well-designed tube mics are driven into distortion, they generate second order harmonics, which are not ugly and can even be desirable in some applications. Solid state mics, on the other hand, generate high order harmonics when driven too hard, which are quite unpleasant. Therefore, pads ar
