Will Metropolitan Edison Company (Met-Ed) or Pennsylvania Electric Company (Penelec) rates for its services increase?
Rates for Pennsylvania public utility companies are regulated by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PaPUC). Met-Ed and Penelec rates for transmission and distribution changed on 1/11/2007. Annually, beginning June 1, 2008, transmission rates will be updated to reflect changes in transmission costs the companies pay. The change may either be an increase or decrease, depending on whether the transmission costs increase or decrease. The companies’ rates for generation for those customers who choose not to shop will remain fixed until December 31, 2010.
