Will metformin bring my period on?
I also have PCOS – and have taken metformin to conceive my two children – it makes you very fertile by help with the ammount of oestrogen in your body with helps to get you to ovulate – so yes, it should make you more regular. Metformin is a drug most commonly used to treat type two diabetics – but DONT worry you are not on it because you have diabetes! They put you on it as due to the PCOS your body stores sugar more easily as fat, and this in turn absorbs a lot of the oestrogen that helps you ovulate and thus – no ovulation – no period. (I found it also made me loose weight easier!) Good luck and PCOS isn’t the end of the world – if you eat sensible and exercise (as you are) then you can control it and you should get a somewhat normal cycle! Next time your at your docs ask for an explanation. I don’t know how old you are – but if you are having sex and don’t want a baby use contraception as metformin makes you VERY fertile.
