Will MegaDoppler 13 look different on TV?
Yes! You’ll notice several changes in how radar is shown on ABC 13: • Rainfall and wind data will now be measured in 256 different intensities instead of 16 levels. • MegaDoppler 13 will scan the sky every ten seconds during severe weather. However, when we are monitoring distant storms, the radar will scan slower. • Watch for the new sector scan which positions the radar beam on an individual storm, giving you continuous analysis in real-time. • The new “RHI” or Range Height Indicator will show us how high a thunderstorm is while allowing us to check for hail aloft. • You’ll see improved high resolution maps which will allow you to see where storms are in relation to well known local landmarks. • MegaDoppler 13 is also sensitive enough to detect birds, bugs, dust and other non-meteorological targets so you might notice a little more ground clutter and false echoes around the radar site. • ABC 13 meteorologists will change the settings and operating modes of MegaDoppler 13 depending on
