Will leaving water in a concrete bird bath over winter cause any problems for it ?

Not if the bird bath is bowl shaped, the ice expands as it freezes if the bird bath is bowl shaped the ice will push itself up as it freezes. However if the bird bath has any straight sides where the water is then the ice will expand and crack the concrete.
