Will insurance cover (rhinoplasty) nasal surgery?
The role of health insurance is to affect the health and function of the individual. When the nose has an obvious obstruction from a deviated septum and/or enlarged turbinates, insurance will cover a portion of the cost. However, when it is combined with cosmetic alteration to affect the appearance of one’s nose, insurance does not cover and it is fraudulent to try and pass a cosmetic procedure off as a “functional procedure”. In the consultation, Dr. Dedo will make it clear whether this is a purely cosmetic or a combined functional/cosmetic procedure. What his office staff will do is file insurance for the functional part and refund the balance to you which has been paid by the insurance company. However, one can count on an assessment for anesthesia and the facility to account for the time performing the cosmetic part of the operation.
