If he’s been in the UK for 5 years on a student visa, he won’t be eligible for Indefinite Leave to Remain soon. Time spent in the UK on a student visa doesn’t count towards the qualifying period for ILR. If he is here on a visa then you will need permission from the Home Office to marry. Nobody automatically gets citizenship because they marry a British citizen, marriage to a British citizen doesn’t even guarantee that he will be granted a visa to remain in the UK. If he is granted a visa then he will still need to fulfil a certain residency requirement before he applies for ILR, if ILR is granted once he has it for a minimum of a year then he will be eligible to apply for British citizenship through the naturalisation process. If you want to add conditions to your marriage, have your fiance to skivvy for you, if you’re allowed to get married, that’s entirely separate to the visa/citizenship issue.
