At Extreme Rules, CM Punk used his Money In The Bank contract to take the World Heavyweight title away from Jeff Hardy, just minutes after reclaiming the gold from Edge in a brutal Ladder match. At The Bash, Hardy pinned Punk to earn the title, but the referee reversed the decision after seeing Punk’s foot outside the ropes. Later, an errant kick by a blinded Punkstruck the referee, earning him a disqualification loss to Hardy, but kept his title safe. Punk has repeatedly blamed his eye injury for the disqualification, and has criticized Hardy for besmirching his integrity as World Heavyweight champion.
