Will gripe water or mylecon help my baby?

Gripe water didn’t work with either of my babies. It used to contain opium, which was the ‘calming’ ingredient, but it obviously doesn’t any longer. I used an over-the-counter gas reducer called Ovol, which really seemed to help. It’s extremely unusual for a breastfed baby to be constipated. It’s more likely that a large bubble of gas is preventing her from having a BM. Ovol makes the bubbles ‘break’ easier, which helps the baby to get the gas out and feel better. My son cried nonstop for 4 months, so I completely understand how you feel right now. Good luck with this!! EDIT – Quite a few people have suggested using KARO syrup as a laxative. This is a baaad idea, even if it does work. If your baby isn’t even taking any regular foods yet, you certainly don’t want her first taste of something besides breastmilk to be something sweet. Doing this can set your daughter up to have a sweet tooth, to reject vegetables and to have a continuing weight problem for the rest of her life. Try prune
