Will Google charge partners or users for PowerMeter?
There is no charge for use of the Google PowerMeter API to device manufacturers and utilities. We have created the product to allow consumers access to their home’s energy information and are committed to building and maintaining an open platform. Users will only be able to access Google PowerMeter if they have a smart meter or an energy monitoring device from a Google PowerMeter partner. Also note that much like other Google products, we do not charge users for their access to the tool. There are no ads in Google PowerMeter. As part of Google.org’s mission of using Google’s strengths in information and technology to build products and advocate for policies that address global challenges, our primary focus is providing a good user experience and highlighting the impact from being more energy efficient.
