Will going green harm the economy ?
Quite the opposite. In order for the economy to continue to thrive, companies need to look forward to future needs and adapt. Petrol companies who are being proactive about becoming “energy” companies and investing in renewable energy techonologies, such as BP and Royal Dutch Shell are the ones who are going to thrive while the others soon find themselves floundering. If you look at the rules and regulations that the EU are imposing on business regarding recycling and take back programs are encouraging all kinds of innovation. Xerox has started creating products that have parts which can easily be recycled and swapped out, so when your company has an outdated machine and wants to upgrade, they are responsible for coming in and taking back the old machine and disposing of it according to the new EU rules. So, rather than scrapping the whole machine, they are making more durable and interchangeable parts so that they can be reincorporated into new products. World economies are going to t
I think that NOT going green is going to harm the the economy, as well as the environment. Yes, people in some manufacturing positions would be laid off if we recycled more–but more jobs would open up working with recycled materials and the processing of them. In the same way, gas companies would lay off people, but alternative energy companies are growing by leaps and bounds, so there would be plenty of jobs in the solar, wind, and other alternative energy fields. WalMart, as little as I like them, is one of the companies that has realized this. They released a statement saying that they sold fish, and that they wanted to be able to continue to sell fish into the forseable future, which is why they have started only selling sustainablely caught fish. I don’t think there’s another company out there, other than the petrol companies, that cares more about profit and the bottom line, and yet WalMart realized that they had to change or they would die (economically speaking). the people wh
