Will gas log heating in basement fireplace heat an open basement area of 1200 sq. ft?

No, the log will not heat 1200 sq. ft. My whole house is 1000sq.ft. What I did was To put a pellet stove in my living room. The pellet stove will not heat the whole house either, so I bring the house temp. up to 70 with my main heat, I have gas, then I lite the pellet stove and it keeps the house at 70. If I use just the pellet stove, I can’t get the heat much above 60. I turn my thermostate down to 55 and as long as I have the pellet stove going, the house will stay at 70, so I just use the main heat for a short time. Wood burning fireplaces look nice but they really don’t do a thing for your heat. Do you have any kind of heat in the basement now other than the space heater? If not I would try the pellet stove, they make an insert that goes in the fireplace opening. My pellet stove is good for 900sq. ft. They do make bigger ones. I don’t believe gas logs will do anything for you. Hope that I helped you out.
