The U.S. Coast Guard said it has saved 72 residents stranded in high water on Galveston Island’s Bolivar Peninsula. Officials said those rescued were transported to various locations. However, Coast Guard officials say their helicopters will soon be grounded because of the strong winds blowing through the island. Two larger helicopters will be flown from Alabama, but during the meantime, helicopter rescues will have to cease. Galveston Mayor Lyda Ann Thomas issued the evacuation curfew order through Sept. 14. The curfew will take place from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 12, Saturday, Sept. 13, and Sunday, Sept. 14. Curfew violators will be subject to arrest and/or a fine in the amount of $2,000.
