Will filling out the fafsa help me?

The fafsa is an application for free money. If you don’t want to be considered for it, then don’t apply. You can do a fafsa now (for LAST semsester-fall 08 AND this next semester – spring 09) using your 2007 income tax return and you can apply for next fall 09 and spring 2010 using your 2008 income tax return. The age to file as independent and NOT report the folks income is based on your age on Jan 1st of that year, so you might still need the folks income for now, and perhaps next year too depending on when your birthday is. Auto debt and credit scores are not considered when determining if you qualify for a grant.
