Will ESL teachers who hold the ESL Program Specialist Certificate issued prior to 1990 be required to complete the ESL training program?
These teachers will be exempt from the training if they have continuously taught ESL in the district that applied for the original Program Specialist certificate. A new application accompanied by a letter from the district confirming the educator’s experience will allow PDE to update the old Program Specialist to the new ESL Program Specialist Certificate.
