Will Erick Aybar or Maicer Izturis become the everyday shortstop?
Yes. What that means is that both of them are likely to split time at the position and unless one of them runs away with it during a hot stretch, the team may be better off with both of them rotating through. Each can play solid defense — Aybar providing the spectacular and Izturis the routine — and each has the ability to hit well, but Izturis has proven it. He batted .406 with runners in scoring position last year whereas Aybar hit .311 in his minor league career so both of them have a good stick, but Izturis is a little more experienced. The team wouldn’t have traded Orlando Cabrera if they didn’t have faith in either of these two.
