Will e-ink be used in computer monitors?
E-ink isn’t a technology geared for computer monitors. It’s monochrome and it has a low refresh rate. E-ink is found in small mostly static displays (think wristwatches and inexpensive cell phones) and in ebook readers where these features are beneficial. E-ink works by drawing a screen and leaving it there; no further processing or power is needed to maintain the screen state, which leads to low power consumption and long battery life. Computer monitors feature dynamic content that current e-ink technology would be unable to keep up with. LCD has the resolution, color, refresh rate, and with LED backlights the low power consumption to meet the needs of computer displays, and right now it is only in those devices where an LCD would be overkill that e-ink is best deployed.
