Will Doing a Bielman Hurt a Figure Skater’s Body? Monday March 8, 2010 The Bielman position takes quite a bit of stretching. The skater holds his or her skate blade and pulls the leg way back up over the head. The legs are completely split, but the knee of the free leg is bent. The move can be done as a spiral or in a spin. Just before I left for the Vancouver Olympics, a mother of a young figure skater wrote me asking if I had any information on whether doing a Bielman could possibly cause damage to a skater’s body later on in life? I’ve done some asking around. The answer at this time is, “No one really knows.” Does anyone have any thoughts on this subject?
