Ortiz is in trouble. His BA has seriously slumped this season, however, with 13 hrs, he may hit 20+ despite his lackluster year. From 2003 to 2007, Ortiz was absolutely dominant in HRs and BA. If he were to retire now, no, he would not make the Hall of Fame. However, if Ortiz can manage to stay healthy and put another 5 years into playing ball, he could perhaps finish with the numbers that would make him a likely vote. Compare his numbers as of now, to those of Jim Rice (who many believe was unworthy of his recent induction), and in comparison to the number of seasons both played, I think Ortiz has better numbers overall as a batter. David Ortiz needs to finish the season with at least 20 HRs, and try and get his BA back up. If he manages this, the RBIs will follow, and perhaps he can finish the year with some momentum to get him ready for 2010.
