Will Dave Chappelle ever return to perform on Comedy Central?
COMEDY fans had reason to be thankful the other night at Carolines on Broadway, where enigmatic Dave Chappelle popped in to see his former “Chappelle’s Show” castmate Charlie Murphy perform. After a five-minute standing ovation, Chappelle kept the crowd in stitches with a 30-minute stand- up set. “Did you miss me?” he playfully asked the audience. “A lot’s changed since I was on TV. We have a black president now. Actu ally, Obama called me and asked me to helphim with his campaign. He said he had two rules for me – don’t use the ‘N’ word, and stay off TV.” He went on, “Figures the first black president would run on a platform of only taxing the rich, and now I’m rich!” Chappelle returned to the club later that night to chat up another “Chappelle’s Show” alum, Paul Mooney, who was headlin ing the late show.
02 March 2006 DAVE CHAPPELLE – CHAPPELLE MAY NEVER RETURN TO COMEDY CENTRAL Dave Chappelle has vowed never to return to Comedy Central if the cable network goes ahead with plans to piece together new episodes of Chappelle’s Show from material taped before he walked away from the series. “I think if they air that stuff, I can’t see how I’m going to be able to [return]. That will damage our relationship,” he told the Dayton Daily News. He called Comedy Central’s plans to do so “a bully move,” adding that “if people don’t watch it, then I’d be more than happy.” Chappelle, who lives in nearby Yellow Springs, OH, was in Dayton for the red-carpet premiere of his concert film, Dave Chappelle’s Block Party.
