Will completing a doctorate degree in Chemistry allow me use of the title Dr.?

You can, but many people don’t. A lot of people think it’s a bit pretentious to use the title of “Dr.” unless you’re an M.D. It’s more common to see people using it if they’re teaching at a university, but even then, many professors only use it on campus–in their private lives, they often don’t. I have a friend who has a Ph.D. in chemistry and who works for a big forest products corporation. She says that among her peers, it’s kind of a reverse-snobbery thing. Nobody uses “Dr.” because it’s just assumed that you do have a doctorate, so why would you need to advertise it?
