Will borrowing someones Windows CD to reinstall on my computer delete all THEIR files as well?

No, it will not delete “their” files, but unless you have a valid activation KEY other then the one that is on the installation CD, you will not be able to register the OS and therefor it will only work for 30 days.

Their files aren’t on your hard drive. Nothing on the CD gets changed. If you use the same product key as theirs, you’ll have problems activating it. If it’s the same version of Windows that came with your machine, use your product key. There should be a Genuine Microsoft sticker on the outside of the case with your product key.
