Will bonded lovebirds in male-male and female-female pairs ok?

We started with a single, stray lovebird about three years ago. Now we have three outdoor aviaries full of them (Peachies and Fischers.) They are fascinating and entertaining little creatures. Here’s what I can tell you about bonding… Lovebirds are omni/hyper-sexual. Our yard is a constant love-fest straight out of the 60’s. Obviously, only the male-female bonds produce offspring, but there’s plenty of experimentation going on. They are also not loyal to each other. We started our first aviary with a pair of violets and a pair of creamino’s. Even though they had previously bonded and had clutches in individual cages, they decided to swing. They swapped partners and we discovered some really interesting recessive genes hidden in those wings in their first clutches! We now have three pair in our breeding colony and I can’t keep straight who’s with who. It’s a lot like Hollywood. Determining which bird will bond with which is next to impossible. (Perhaps you could try eHarmony. 🙂 ) Li
