Will Blue Shield implement AB 2208 changes the same for small (2-50), midsize (51-299) and large (300+) groups?
Yes, our standard or portfolio plans for all sized groups (small, midsize and large) will have the narrow domestic partner definition (only domestic partners registered with the state). Small, midsize and large groups will have the option to select broad coverage (i.e., Blue Shield’s existing coverage). Using this approach, we can accommodate groups affected by the following circumstances: • Small groups that currently have broad coverage (according to AB 1672, we are required to renew existing accounts with in-force eligibility). • Groups that do business with certain cities or municipalities that require contracted employers to cover domestic partners who may not be registered with the state.
