Will Bill Caplan get Golden Boy inside info about Top Rank?
Golden Boy Promotions has hired Top Rank’s long-time publicist, Bill Caplan. In its announcement GBP sounded triumphant, as if it were a coup to have gotten Caplan to join them. “I’ve worked with Bill since the early days of my career and know from personal experience that he is a Hall of Famer for good reason,” said the Golden Boy himself, Oscar De La Hoya. “We are extremely excited to add Bill to our public relations team at Golden Boy Promotions,” said Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions. “He has the experience, knowledge and expertise to bring Golden Boy’s public relations efforts to the next level.” One could ask Mr. Schaefer how the company got this far if it needed its PR staff to be taken to new level. Bill Caplan, who has over 40 years of experience in boxing and sports publicity, worked for Bob Arum and Top Rank as recently as June 2010.
