Will being red green colour blind affect me in the Australian Army Reserves?
It will. Many jobs across the Australian Army require high standards of colour perception, including all of the combat arms. How about There are many positions available that don’t require good colour perception though – if you still want to be an officer, you may be able to join a local University Regiment, do your first appointment course and pass out as a junior officer in one of the support corps. If you’ve got the right professional qualifications, you may even be the short SSO course and quickly become a Specialist Service Officer. The Ordance and Catering Corps have quite a few colourblind people who couldn’t get into one of the combat arms of their choice. Don’t feel let down though – even cooks and clerks get to come out bush and practice the essential military skills.
