Will bear bating/feeding attract bears to my area?
Here’s a Canada-centric answer: Yes, baiting will attract bears. Will bears become a problem when the baiting is over? Probably not. Bears are somewhat territorial. If the hunter kills the bear that’s being baited in that area, it’s unlikely more will rush in now that there’s no more food smell lingering through the air. However, it’s not impossible that more bears won’t come into that territory. Dump bears have become quite accustomed to sharing turf when there’s an overabundance of food around. If you’re really concerned look at it this way: the baiting area is only 900 yards from the house, if the bears were that close, they’d probably smell your house and be a problem already.
