Will asthma affect joing the military?
I have the same problem (inhaler wise, not the weezing) and I have another year and a half to wait. The military are very strict on this and you need to have 4 years clear before you can get in. If you try to apply with the inhaler on your application, if you get rejected then you have to wait another 4 years from when you sent off your application. They (I believe) give you a form you need to fill in, medical wise, this is then sent off to your doctor, which then they confirm (or deny), which obviously will affect your application.
You undergo a lung function test as part of your medical examination. If you believe you are still asthmatic, then frankly it would not be a good idea to withold any known medical condition. If the condition were to become apparent in the first 15 weeks of training and it was discovered you made a fraudulent application you would be subject to disciplinary action and dismissal. In the worse case scenario, if a person knowingly suffering from asthma had an attack in a smoke & dust-filled combat zone, without an inhaler, it would be extremely selfish to expect anyone to further risk their life trying to help you. Ultimately the person to ask is the medical examiner.
