Will any action be taken on the illegal structures and illegal extraction in the Macquarie Marshes and Gwydir Wetlands?
Illegal structures and illegal extraction activities will be investigated and dealt with appropriately under the Water Management Act 2000 by the Department of Water and Energy, and possibly under the Australian Government’s Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. To ensure the protection of environmental water (including water identified within Water Sharing Plans, and Adaptive Environmental Water) it will be important that structures that impact on water delivery to environmental assets are managed appropriately.
