Will an unlocked HTC Magic phone work with Verizon?
That is actually incorrect. Unlocked phones will not work with all companies. In this case, an unlocked HTC Magic will not work with the Verizon network because it doesn’t have the internal hardware to communicate with the Verizon network. T-Mobile and AT&T use the GMS technology and SIM card activations for their customers. Verizon uses CDMA and Over-The-Air activation for their customers. I bought an HTC Magic direct from google (as one of their development phones) because it was unlocked and I had thought the same thing originally. The HTC Magic does not contain any of the activation numbers that Verizon needs to register the phone on their networks, nor does the phone recognize any of the Verizon towers as it doesn’t have the CDMA technology (or if it does, it isn’t enabled) for the phone to communicate with Verzon.
