No, they will NOT reduce the teenage pregnancy rate. What they will do is make abortion clinics more profitable. Instead of glamorizing abortion, it should, at the very least, be shown as a last ditch effort and not a “simple procedure.” When the stigma of having an unwanted pregnancy decreased, girls begain to fear getting pregnant less. Look at Bristol Palin, for example. She could not bring herself to talk openly with her “loving” parents about her being pregnant. You would think she would have been just as fearful of having sex outside of marriage. But an individual’s moral character is a subjective thing, and the young do not always consider the consequences of their actions. Only when their backs are up against the wall do they then scramble about looking for an easy OUT. By minimizing the social consternation of unwed pregnancy, have we not sanitized our moral obligation to treat the unborn child with all the love and dignity any human being is entitled to?
