Will a retained bullet set off an airport metal detector?”
If you tell them you’ve got a bullet lodged in you before you go through the metal detector and request a hand scan, you’re less likely to arouse suspicion than if you just go through and hope it doesn’t set anything off. If it does happen to go off, they will of course want to do a hand scan of you anyway, to find out where the offending metal is. But you can head off any suspicion by being up front about it before you even go through the machine.
