keep the bird bath where it is, its to shallow, nothing will stop it from freezing, if you want to keep a regular supply of fresh water for the birds etc in your garden, place a large bowl on the floor under your central heating flu outlet, if you don’t have a flu outlet place it near the outside wall where your biggest window is, the heat from the house will stop it freezing, and hedge hogs etc will benefit to.
