Will a Cocker Spaniel be ok for a first time dog?
Cockers are great dogs and will make a good first time dog. I use to raise cockers years ago and they are excellent for first time dogs or anytime for that matter. When my oldest son was little our cocker Nuisance saved his life because I was at work and my husband was on crutches and my son was out in the yard and sunk away from his dad and went towards the road and a truck was coming and my husband went hobbling down the drive swinging his crutches and the truck driver seen him and stopped. i went to a kennels looking for a German Shepherd, i came home with a Cocker (long story), that was 5 years ago, in my opinion the friendliest, most loving and obedient dog ever, they are great with kids, so easy to train and very loving, i guess for a family the only down side is that they do tend to be very much a one person dog, mine follows me everywhere, even to the loo LOL. I have a sister who used to run a kennels, she has now retired and bought herself a Cocker as she feels they are the best for someone on their own who needs the company. Good luck and take care.
