Will a chipped harmonic balancer have any bearing on making the motor idle rough?
Do the harmonic balancer. They are not that hard to remove and replace, you can either go to the dealer or parts house and get one or go to a parts yard and get one. Look at the dynamics and if you have a wheel assembly and it is out of balance by .5 ounces at 40 miles an hour it is able to make the entire car shake. The harmonic balancer is rotation at 800 RPM at an idle, and if it is out of balance you can bet you will feel it as it makes the engine jump around in the car. The balancer weighs about 15+ pounds and if it is out by lets say a quarter pound you will definitely know something is wrong.
