Wii party games are ten-a-penny, are the Ninja Captains deserving of their ranks above the bunch?
Described by European developers Nordcurrent as a “game collection”, Ninja Captains presents players with a loosely-connected series of scenarios, available to be played in Story Mode or selected individually in the title’s Free Play mode. We say loosely-connected, as the story binding the mini-games revolves around the globe-trotting exploits of the four titular Ninja Captains, who travel the world over the course of the twenty challenges, which all take place in famous cities (London, Paris, Sydney), with appropriately matching challenges (racing gondolas in Venice, for example). The Captains’ exploits are played out through amusing and undeniably cute cut-scenes, with their world presented in a cartoon-like hand-drawn style. The games themselves are all 3D, and although the title’s graphics are not terribly detailed, the Captain’s clumsy shenanigans regularly bring a smile to your face. Some of the minigames do raise a chuckle – shovelling the right kebab food to the correct custome
