Speer escaped the noose because the all the Judges at the Neuremberg trials were ‘snobs’. They considered Speer to be one of their own, an upper middle class type with more brains than sense. Thus he got a prison sentence and avoided the noose. Pity. Speer was a raving Nazi – I saw him on TV many years ago with the Winston Churchill’s son, also called Winston who was busy tearing Speer to pieces verbally, when a Jewish guy broke into the studio and began shouting into Speer’s face. Great stuff. No one told the Jewish guy to leave. Good! He said all the right words that I had always wanted to shout at Speer until he turned deaf. As a telagrapher I had the great good fortune to send a telegram on behalf of a Rabbi who wrote these words to a Rabbi friend in New York – “The Nazi Albert Speer is dead”. Clear enough.
