Why write a character sketch?
When creating a character you may immediately know certain things about him/her, a name or job or a persistent habit perhaps. But to create real characters that your readers will not only believe, but may relate to, youll want to do a character sketch. A character sketch is a fleshed-out description of your character: looks, personality, major flaws, values, likes and dislikes, habits, personal environment (bedroom or apartment, desk at work, etc.) and, briefly, major relationships. Fully understanding your character will not only allow you get to know your character, but it will allow you to write about him/her believably because he/she becomes more real as you develop him/her.
