Why would two Hasidim teenagers ask my co-worker running a retail showroom if he was Jewish?
They may well have been involved in a Jewish outreach project, offering Jewish people a chance to perform a Jewish ritual. This is not unusual among Hasidim, especially to get men to don Tefillin (the leather boxes and straps worn for prayer) and women to light Shabbat candles on a Friday evening. As for the fact that they were unkempt, that’s inexcusable.
