There was a medical equipment company using live dogs to show off their devices. The vivisectionist (very little medical training) would cut open the living dog, show the medical staff how the device was used, then the dog would be killed. I don’t know how long this went on, but finally someone with a conscience helped animal rights groups to stop it. I once talked to an air ambulance RN that I regularly flew with. She worked part time at the U of M. She proudly said that she had put 400 to 500 dogs to sleep after medical students practiced cutting up dogs, and sewing them back together. She would kill them after their “practice”. As she put it, she would much rather have a doctor practice on twenty dogs than on her daughter for the first time. What an unattractive person she became in my mind! Why would they? To document need for additional funding / grants for medical procedures.
