Why would Pony have thought he was in Windrixville while he was delirious in “The Outsiders”?

dymatsuoka eNotes Editor Like a bad nightmare that he could not wake up from, Ponyboy was reliving the traumatic events of the past weeks when he was delirious. He had been attacked by a gang of Socs, been the inadvertent cause of Johnny killing a rival in his defense, run from the law, survived a fire, witnessed the deaths of Johnny and Dally, participated in a rumble, and gotten a concussion during that time, so Ponyboy was in pretty bad shape, both physically and mentally. It is not surprising that he should have thought he was back in Windrixville, the place where he hid out with Johnny in the immediate aftermath of the Soc’s killing and also the location of the fire, when he was delirious.
