Why would people be so against Casinos coming to their state?
I used to be pro-casino, but now think they are the worst thing for the individual. Not even speaking from a moral/religious perspective, I think gambling is a lazy legislator’s way to raise money, when they don’t want to grow and manage a stable local economy. The whole industry is based on the addicts. If they didn’t keep them rich in cash, and were the exception, it would be different. It’s not the people who occasionally play $50 that support them, the casinos drain people’s life savings, and that’s where the money comes from. It gets concentrated there, and that money is no longer used to support jobs providing actual goods and services. People are addicted, and even if you think it’s just a weakness, it’s still devastating to families, and when they build the casinos they absolutely know that will happen, because those people are their bread and butter.
