The law would allow Parks Canada up to five years from the date a national marine conservation area is established until a management plan must be in place. An interim management plan would form part of a Federal/Provincial Agreement, and would serve as a working document to allow us to move forward during the initial five year period. Why so long? It takes time to do things right. During those years we would continue gathering scientific data to gain a comprehensive portrait of the whole area. We would consult further with you and your neighbours – people who live beside and use the north shore waters – to determine your priorities for the area’s management. With input from residents and user groups, through the management board, open houses and round table discussions, we would revise the working plan.
